Dear families,
We are starting our Dr. Seuss unit this week. Dr. Seuss (Theodore Seuss Geisel) uses predictable, repetetive, rhyming text through the use of word families (-at, -am), basic vocabulary (fox, socks, house, mouse) and nonsense words. These books help students develop an understanding of rhymes- how to identify and sort rhyming words, how to create new rhymes, and how to use rhyming knowledge to predict text. Predictable and repetetive text helps students stay focused and interested in the story because they can follow along contribute to the read-a-loud.
Small groups for this week will address skills such as; color, shape and letter identification/matching, fine motor strength and stability, positional vocabulary, and predicting/creating rhyming words.

Cutting out striped hats with letters to match to the corresponding cats
