Dear Families,

This week we're starting our Transportation unit.  We are going to learn about different kinds of transportation and what sounds they make.  Here are the stories we will be reading.

Sail Away-  In our Sail Away book, we will listen to different ocean sounds as we move our toy boats across the ocean (water-filled sensory bags).  When we run into our storm, we'll make big ocean waves and practice looking at the dark grey skies overhead.

Dragon in a Wagon-  In Dragon in a Wagon, we are exploring many different kinds of transportation using real object representations and pictures of transportation.  We will also listen to how each kind of transportation sounds.

How will we get to the Beach- In this book we will explore different kinds of transportation and characters as we try and fit everybody inside to get to the beach.

Freight Train- In Freight Train we talk about different colors as we add cars to the train.  Kids can explore the different textures on the colored cars and slide the train car pieces back and forth as we read our story.

Arts & Crafts

This past week we finished up our Opposites Unit.  We explored soft and hard textures and made chicks by using soft materials for the chick and hard materials for the egg.  We explored bumpy and smooth and made smooth octopuses with bumpy tentacles.  We also explored concepts of in and out and colored a jack in the box.

This week for music, we will be singing some transportation themed songs.  We are working on hand and finger strengthening, facilitated bilateral and unilateral movements with our hands and arms, visual tracking, and using our buttons to participate in the singing.  Here are our songs for this month:

1. It's music time
2. Wheels on the Bus
3. Row Row Row your boat
4. Down by the Station
5. I'm a little airplane
